The Swachh Maharashtra Grand Challenge is a unique platform where solutions, talent and capital combine to solve India’s most pressing sanitation challenges

INTRODUCING THE SWACHH MAHARASHTRA GRAND CHALLENGE

The Swachh Maharashtra Grand Challenge is a first-of-its-kind open innovation platform set up in partnership with the government, corporate and social sector to identify, implement, nurture and replicate highly innovative, effective, scalable and sustainable sanitation projects.

This Grand Challenge will focus on four themes each having a carefully designed problem statement. Any Indian organisation including NGOs, Social Enterprises, For-Profit Companies, Academic Institutions and others can submit their solutions on the website, against each of these themes, on or before the deadline. These will then undergo a careful evaluation from a diverse and expert jury panel over the course of the next few months.

The Top 50 solutions will be registered on a funder marketplace by October 2019 while the Top 20 solutions will additionally be invited to few funder and networking forums over the course of next year.

The winning solutions will be provided a unique opportunity to raise grant capital to implement their projects for a duration of 6-12 months starting with Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. In addition, these projects will receive capacity building support and local implementation support and an opportunity to potentially replicate projects that demonstrate success across Maharashtra and India.

PROBLEM STATEMENTS

Toilet Usage

We may have sent man to the moon, but we still haven’t sent all of them to the toilets. Building toilets does not ensure people use them, given open defecation is an age old habit. It is time we change this.

Do you have it in you to make this happen?

School Sanitation

Did you know that two simple ways of making a profound impact on the health, education and future of our country is as simple as (a.) making our children wash hands with soap (b.) provide them a comfortable toilet usage experience.

Do you have it in you to make this happen?

Sanitation Workers

Socially ostracised and perennially forgotten, on one hand. India’s sanitation heroes on the other. These workers face extreme work hazards and their lives extreme hardships. It is time we change this.

Do you have it in you to make this happen?

Faecal Sludge Management

100,000 children die every year in India due to improper sanitation. Building toilets is the first step. Guess what’s the final piece of the puzzle? Treating the faecal waste. Currently 70% of urban India’s waste goes untreated. It is time we change this.

Do you have it in you to make this happen?
